One day as my grandchildren and I were looking through the donut selection at the local bakery I got to thinking about the connection between donuts and life. Something beyond what can wind up on our hips if we eat too many of them. Ha Ha.
Think about it. In life we have the tendency to bypass looking at the things we do have. The things present in our lives. Things that may be plain to the eye or nicely decorated like Brooke’s donut.
Instead we look for what is missing like the center hole of a donut instead of being thankful for what we do have. When we do this we miss out on the best part just because we were thinking too much about the part that was missing.
Instead of wishing for what we don’t have let’s concentrate on what we do have. There’s a beauty to be found in everything if we look hard enough. For example, the hole that is missing in your life may be a parent who has moved away due to a divorce or died. Look at what you do have like a parent who is still there, a grandparent who is giving their all to you, a friend nearby, a youth pastor at the church or someone else.
We need to stop looking at life through the donut hole and get our eyes focused outward on the greater things around it. Concentrate on what is there. What is missing will take care of itself. Turn to Jesus. He will help you where you struggle to see what needs to be seen and let go of what needs to be let go of. Learn that lesson early and you’ll be way ahead of a lot of adults. God bless.
