One day in Sunday school class of kindergarten and preschool kids our craft was to make a heart. One making the statement that, "our heart belongs to Jesus." It was to be a symbol of them giving their hearts to Jesus. Wyatt, one of my four-year-old students got a little carried away with his scissors. Instead of just cutting his heart out he cut his up into many, many pieces.
Rather than give him a new heart I decided to piece together his. I figured his parents would treasure more their son's artwork seeing what he did all on his own. All thru class as the kids played I patiently pieced his heart together. I had to search for every part and find where it belonged. Finally I got it together in time to share the story with his parents.
As they walked away I began to think about Jesus and how He does the same with out hearts that are broken into many pieces. Patiently He puts our hearts back together mending it back to where it needed to be. It's not an easy task of just handing us a new heart to start over. No, He works with what was broken piece by piece. Patiently mending, diligently putting back together what once was shattered.
When it's all done our hearts may have cracks in it but that's what is good. It's the cracks in the tighten vessel of our hearts that allows the light of Jesus to come in as well as shine out. Praise the Lord.
