Psalm 73:26 (NKJV) My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.
Whether we want to admit it or not our flesh or physical “body” is going to fail or give out and eventually die some day. As much as we would like to find the one thing that will keep us young forever it will never happen. We may manage to add a few years on to our lives but the end result remains the same.
Modern medicine has given us all sorts of gadgets such as pacemakers and open heart surgery to keep our hearts beating properly but again the end result remains the same. We are all just one heartbeat away from eternity.
Since we have very little control over the physical our concentration needs to be on our spiritual heart that does live forever. The health of that heart is up to us as we equip it with what makes it strong, Jesus Christ. It is Him who needs to be our portion, our piece, part, segment, quota that keeps us going.
Our portion in life can’t be the games we like to play, the reputations we’d love to build, the number of friends we have hanging around us, the fun of drunkenness, the cool keen feeling of smoking with the crowd. Those are things that can often add to the destruction of the physical heart instead of the strength of the spiritual.
Eternity awaits us all. Where we want to spend it starts with choosing God as the strength of our heart our portion here on earth, our portion in Heaven forever. We should be excited, anxious to get dressed for the journey to meet our Lord. The creator of a beautiful earth, the sun that shines, the moon man got to walk on once, the ocean that waves, the clouds that form, the snow that falls, the heart that beats.
It’s not, “party today because tomorrow we may die.” Its “my portion today is God for tomorrow may be my day to meet Him and I want to be ready.” We can’t keep our physical heart beating forever but since our spiritual heart goes on forever we have a choice. Stand before God in judgment for what we have done or in grace because we allowed God to be the strength of our heart, our portion forever! The choice is ours.

About Me

- Karen
- I reside in Oregon, with my husband of 32 years. I'm a mother of one and grandmother of six, counting my two newly adopted grandsons. I teach a women’s Bible Study. In June of 2007 God asked me to take with me the things I had learned in my own Christian walk to help those traveling down similar roads. A journey that started with a head injury in Jr. High School and the epilepsy it was to create later for 7 long years. One day I was given the key to my cure. In order to have the surgery to cure the 10% of my seizures that were truly epileptic I was told I had to get rid of first the 90% that were stress caused. For the next five years I took my stress issues to the Lord, leaning and relying on Him and His word as well as catchy sayings of others to see me through. As peace, obedience to God and giving up bad habits replaced worry, stubbornness and disobedience my stress seizures began to disappear. Finally I qualified for the surgery. The end result after 20 years has been being seizure free and pill free all those years. Praise the Lord. God is the cure. I can be contacted at karijo_fluffy@yahoo.com.
