Psalm 73:28 It’s good for me to draw near to God; I put my trust in Him, I will declare all His works.
Have you ever thought it was good to be “near” your mom or dad or someone? Admit it; your first reaction was probably, “no way.” For some there is truth in that because of neglect and abuse but let’s set that aside and think of those in your life that are good to you.
There are times when you are scared, in need of protection, guidance, love and attention that make it good to be near them. We never seem to have a problem drawing near them when we want something or have a need we’d like them to fill. Once that need is fulfilled we can’t get away quick enough, we want to be on our own, doing it our way.
Just as we make a choice to “be near” our family and friends emotionally when it suits what we want, we do the same to Jesus. We have the tendency to draw near at our convenience when it suits what we want. However as soon we get what we are after we put a great distance between us and God.
The next thing we know when something goes wrong and we don’t feel like God is near we wonder where He went. The truth is we are the ones that moved not God. Drawing near to God is a choice we need to make and keep on a daily basis. It’s a choice only we can make for ourselves. One we will never regret.
It starts with spending time adventuring through the gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John found in the first part of the New Testament of the Bible. Put yourself on the boat when Jesus calmed the storm. Imagine yourself as the crippled man on the mat whose friends lowered him through the roof of a house to be healed by Jesus. The more you read the more you will get to know Him. Don’t try to live out a relationship with Him through some else like your mom or grandma, establish one of your own. Talk to Him daily in prayer and praise. Consult Him when you are sad, reach out to Him when you are lost, turn to Him first when you are seeking. Before you know it you will feel and see the nearest you share because of the efforts you were willing to put in to it.
OUR PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father thank you for being there for us to draw near to You. Forgive us Lord for thinking You are the one who has to make the first move. Help us Lord to put our trust where it needs to be in You. We declare all Your works and give You the praise for what You are doing and can do in our lives as a result of staying close to You in our hearts, thinking, and actions.

About Me

- Karen
- I reside in Oregon, with my husband of 32 years. I'm a mother of one and grandmother of six, counting my two newly adopted grandsons. I teach a women’s Bible Study. In June of 2007 God asked me to take with me the things I had learned in my own Christian walk to help those traveling down similar roads. A journey that started with a head injury in Jr. High School and the epilepsy it was to create later for 7 long years. One day I was given the key to my cure. In order to have the surgery to cure the 10% of my seizures that were truly epileptic I was told I had to get rid of first the 90% that were stress caused. For the next five years I took my stress issues to the Lord, leaning and relying on Him and His word as well as catchy sayings of others to see me through. As peace, obedience to God and giving up bad habits replaced worry, stubbornness and disobedience my stress seizures began to disappear. Finally I qualified for the surgery. The end result after 20 years has been being seizure free and pill free all those years. Praise the Lord. God is the cure. I can be contacted at karijo_fluffy@yahoo.com.
